What does good look like for a council website?

If session durations go up, are residents accessing more and better information, or are they wasting time completing their transactions? If bounce rates are low, are people struggling to find what they need or are they engaged with multiple transactions? If there is under-representation of the 18-24 age group, should more resources be directed at signing them up or is it a fair representation of the age group’s council activities?

CANalytics seeks to help councils answer these questions and more by providing comparative web site data and statistics. We feed data from every web page with a CAN Tag into our Google Analytics environment and compile the information into a series of comparative tables. The data is anonymised and formulated as percentile or percentage rankings so council partners can see where they stand against other councils.

The CANalytics beta tables are being released in Summer 2017 based on CYQ2 data. The tables will be updated initially each quarter. We will work with partners to improve and extend the metrics through 2017 with the aim to moving to monthly tables in 2018.
